Learning Self Defence In Karate (空手)

Team 14’s Karate Lesson!

On Monday the 29th of April 2019, Room 14 learnt karate skills. There were two types of skills. The ones that allow you to get away but not hurt the person which is stage one. The second type of skills are the ones that actually hurt the person which is stage two.

Stage one: The first thing we learnt was don’t be there. If someone grabbed you by your wrist say something out loud like “DON’T TOUCH ME” or “FIRE to get others’ attention. The second thing you do is to run home,  school or to a friends house, whichever one is the closest.

The next skill is called Sky Punch. If they don’t let go and they grab your right hand with their right hand. Step inwards so you are right next to them, then face your fist to the sky and bring your hand right out of their hands by punching upwards, like you’re punching the air.

The second skill we learnt was talk to the hand, basically all we had to do was if someone grabs our right wrist with their right hand we face our hand to the left and push to your right which makes the person lose grip of your hand. Then you run away.

The third skill we learnt was  called the bowler, like you’re about to bowl in cricket. If someone grabs you on your shoulders, bring your right arm around their arms and you can drag them anywhere.
